Choo Choo Lunch

After our visit to the court house we did some sight seeing in the lovely KCK (Kansas City, Kansas). Andy took us to a little dive called Fritz's. There is one down in Crown Center also, but I think that this is the original. There is a train track around the perimeter of the building near the ceiling. When you are ready to order, you use a phone next to your table and the choo choo train will deliver your food. They had engineer hats. Drew wouldn't wear his at all and Jilli would only keep hers on for a couple seconds, so I had to snap a quick pic.
There is a tray under the track that carries your food. Once it drops off the food it makes it way around the entire place. Drew and Jilli were both excited every time one would come around.

The boo boo cheek, 4 days post trauma.

There is our food. One nice, fruit and veggie less, grease pit lunch. Once we left Drew was upset and said he wanted to go back to the choo choo place.

Visiting the Court House

Andy finished his summer internship with the Wyandotte County Prosecutor's Office last Friday, yeah. But he forgot his ID to turn back in, so we made a trip to the court house. The kids and I had planned to make a trip to visit him at work this summer, but never made it. I wanted to see where he was working and I think it was good for Drew to visualize it too. If you asked him where daddy worked, he would say "at the court house" but I doubt that he really knew what a court house was. Now he does.
I think some of the people at the office wanted to meet his family also. There was one secretary who told Andy to bring his kids by for a visit and when she had Jilli bean in her arms she was all smiles. Who wouldn't be? Then the wiggle worm wanted down and the minute her feet hit the floor she sprinted into the boss's office and everyone got a good giggle out of that.
Now we have two week of rest and relaxation before the semester begins. Ha Ha - poor Andy has the world's longest honey-do list to attack these next couple of weeks. So much for rest.

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation." Play-Doh

The kids and I had some Play-doh fun time. Drew liked using the rolling pin to flatten his play-doh. We made hand print impressions for Daddy :) Jillian didn't know what to think. She was doing some careful inspection.

I put the binky in to keep the play-doh out of her mouth. Of course that didn't work the whole time,so once I found some in her mouth she got to play with the tools instead. Lucy also ate some play-doh. When if fell on the ground she must of assumed that it was food, what a dork.
Drew was using this hair making contraption and I was changing the die to change from spaghetti/hair to a star shape and Drew told me "be careful, it's complicated."

YUM!
Another quote from Plato (Play-doh) that I thought my dad would appreciate. "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." There your literary lesson for the day is complete.

Boo Boo Cheek

Thursday evening around 6:30 I woke up to a blood curdling Drew scream. I got up from bed so fast that I literally saw stars, but sprinted down the hall to see Andy holding a screaming, bleeding Drew. He reached for me and laid his head on my shoulder and was crying. He was bleeding from his mouth, but I couldn't really see what was going on. After Andy handed Drew to me, he bent over and was picking something up off the floor. My first thought was he was picking up Drew's teeth. It scared me to death. He calmed down, we got boo boo bear (the ice pack) and his pillow and blanket, turned on Backyardigans and began to evaluate.
There was a kitchen chair pulled out over by the B poster and a plaque/sign thing that hangs above the B poster was on the floor. Andy was running a bath for the kids and of course I was sleeping so neither of us saw what happened. Anything you asked Drew he answered yes to. Drew did you fall off the chair? - yes, Drew did you trip and fall into the chair? - yes. So who knows what really happened.
He had the obvious boo boo on his cheek and it looked like he bit the side of his cheek/lip too. His big toe was bleeding also. I was trying to check him out, by squeezing his arms and legs and asking him where it hurt. Like I said I don't know if he fell off the chair or not. After my asking him multiple times where his boo boo was and him answering multiple times "my cheek." The final answer was in the most annoyed tone - boo boo cheek mom!!! I was interrupting his Backyardigans. We let him stay up for a while to see if he was okay. His eyes looked fine, no vomiting and normal playing. I also pushed around on his cheek bone and it felt intact. So we decided that there was no need for an ER trip. That night Andy went in his room to wake him up and make sure that he was able to respond. This kid was probably really annoyed by his parents, you think.

Drew would hold boo boo bear on his cheek and count to ten with me. I was hoping to keep the swelling down. It is 6 days later and there is still a noticeable bruise on his cheek. It is leaving the purple/ blue stage and now has some brown and green hues to it. By the way Andy was picking up a screw from the sign so Jillian wouldn't get it, thankfully not any of Drew's teeth.

Owen Came Over to Play

Drew had went over to our little neighbor boy Owen's house to play a couple of weeks ago and it was Owen turn to come over to Drew's house. Both of the boys were excited about it all week. We saw Owen at the YMCA and he ran over to Drew hugged him and said "I am coming to you house to play." They did pretty good taking turns, the car was a big hit again. We were trying to teach Drew about how you treat your guest. Of course Jillian followed the boys around and played too. A princess carriage and a monster truck, what a combo. It is funny how much the boys like to play with Jillian's castle. Drew plays with it almost every day. Owen liked the monster truck so much that he wanted to take it home with him.
There must be something very interesting on the tube, I am sure that it is Backyardigans.

Pool Party

This week my brother Brett and his family moved in to a new house. They closed on Thursday and moved in Friday. We came to visit Saturday and their house looked more unpacked and organized than ours did 6 months after we moved in. Their new house is awesome. Tons of room and the girls finally get their own rooms. It is funny that neither seemed overly ecstatic about it, maybe they are just used to sharing. Some times different is a little scary. I know they will appreciate it in the future. Everyone needs their own space. The best part about the house is their pool in the backyard. Drew won't stop talking about uncle Brett's sandbox (under the swing set) and his pool, even though he barely left the stairs of the pool. I don't know what has caused this boy's fear of water, but he is definitely cautious. I bought the kids suit with floatation devices built in and I don't know if they were as great as I thought, but they did ease my mind a a little. We brought other water toys too, including Drew's alligator he named Al. Very original don't you think. I like to ask Drew the name of things to see what he will come up with. The other day he said there was a monster in his room. I asked what the monster's name was and he said "scary." Ha ha! Below is Nana and Drew playing with Al on the steps of the pool.

Jillian and I enjoying the water. The problem with their life vest/swim suits was they kept riding up over their chins, not very comfortable. Jillian loves the water, but she got exhausted quickly. I was holding her and she leaned her head against me and closed her eyes. Mom thought she was going to fall asleep. We took her in and changed her, laid her down for a nap in the pack-n-play and didn't hear a peep for 2 hours.

Me and Jillian"swimming" and Drew and Nana on the steps :)
There is a part of the pool that has seats in it. Very relaxing.
Drew finally let Nana take him away from the steps. Two points, he made a basket.

We drove up Saturday morning and got to Brett's around noon and left a little before 6:00. Thirty minutes into the trip down, our DVD player broke and life saver Brett let us borrow his for the ride back. By the time we got home it was 10:00 and both of the kids were exhausted and at melting point. Both were crying. We changed their pants, put on PJ's and off to sleepy town.

"Camping" in the Living Room

Drew newest thing is to bring his pillow and blanket into the living room and want to lay on the couch or floor. He has asked multiple times to sleep in the living room. So Friday night we decided the three of us would go "camping" in the living room. I wish Jilli bean would have been able to join us, but she was beyond exhausted and would have never stayed in the living room. So we brought all blankets and pillows in and piled them on the floor. Drew picked out a Robots movie and we settled in for the movie and some good boy cake. He was so excited and he kept saying that he was going to sleep between mom and dad. I didn't make it through the entire movie, because I was exhausted. Once I woke up to two snoring boys :) and woke up again when Drew started coughing. After his coughing fit he rolled over next to me, put his head on my pillow and linked his arm into mine. That made the uncomfortable floor sleeping more than worth it. Click on this picture to make it bigger and you can see the excitement on his face.

I know this is a disgusting picture of me, but it is the only one we got of the three of us. The following attempt only included the top of Drew's head, because he kept sitting up to see the Robots movie before the picture would take. Even in this pic he is trying to see the movie.
Drew enjoying some good boy cake.

Good Boy Cake

Sometimes I ask Drew what he wants for breakfast and the last Monday he said cake. It was just after Jilli's birthday party so he must of had cake on the brain. I asked him what kind of cake. He said "good boy cake." I said "you think you should get a cake for being a good boy". He replied "yeah." I told him "that's silly." We moved on that morning with a more appropriate breakfast and he didn't mention it anymore. I told Andy about the whole good boy cake conversation and he said he would eat cake if we made it. So Friday Drew and I made a cake, yellow with chocolate icing and sprinkles. Drew loves to cook with mama, so he was excited. I told him we were making a good boy cake and he would tell me "that's silly." I think that it is funny that he remembers my response multiple days later. It reminds me that he is really listening to everything I say. Drew and I made the cake, daddy and Drew iced the cake and Drew added the sprinkles. He would say "sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle" with every shake. As you can see he is not so great at evenly distributing them, oh well.

He notices the piles of sprinkles and feels the need to remove some.... and put them in his mouth. :)
