Jillian's 1 year check up and Drew's speech evaluation

Today Jillian went for her one year check up. Here are her stats:

Weight - 21 lbs 11 oz - 60th percentile
Height - 28.25 in - 25th percentile
Head - 18.5 in - 90th percentile

Jillian was very unhappy with the visit that included 3 shots and a heal stick. She screamed so loud that my ears were ringing. She screamed for about 5 minutes straight. There was no consoling her. She didn't want to be held, rocked or set down. She was screaming and shaking her legs. I tried singing, walking and bouncing. Nothing worked until she saw the toys in the waiting room on the way out. They pricked her heal to test her iron and lead. If her iron was low, they would send us for a lab draw. I was praying that it would be fine, I didn't know if I could stand to hear her cry like that again. Thankfully it was.

She is doing well, our only concern is I think she might be sensitive to milk. I think it is the cause of her diarrhea and horrible butt rash. She hasn't had any milk in 4 or 5 days and hasn't had any problems. So the doctor said to get her bottom completely cleared up for a couple of days and then introduce milk again and see if we get the same reaction. If so give her soy milk and try cow's milk in another 6 months. We had these diarrhea and butt rash problems when she was first born and they told us she was lactose intolerant. It doesn't make much sense though, because the formula doesn't cause her any problems and it is milk based. I don't know, but I will try anything to figure it out, because it is pitiful when she has that horrible diaper rash. Her bottom gets so irritated it looks like it could bleed and she cries and shakes in pain when you wipe her, even with a wash rag. I will keep every updated.

When we were waiting for the doctor to come in. Drew and I were discussing the mural on the wall and there was a gingerbread house on it. I told him we should make a gingerbread house this Christmas. He said "I love Christmas." I said "me too" He said " me three." I thought it was a crack up.

Another funny Drew moment was last night when Andy went to check on him and recover him before bed. Andy sneaked into the room and Drew started to russle. Drew said in a very sleepy voice "Dad....... close my door" Andy called me at work, which scared me to death, and was laughing about little man and just had to tell me. It made my night

Drew had a speech evaluation for articulation on Monday. I took him to a tot screening, through Leavenworth county and the school district. I was a little concerned about his speech. Sounds that he made before or words that he said before now were mispronounced. Like he says gook for book and gog for dog. I understand 99% of what the kid says, but I think the rest of the world probably understands about 50%. So she said that he does the opposite of most kids. A "G" sound is the more difficult sound, so most kids would say dod for dog, but he says gog. Other words that seem like they would be difficult he says fine, like orange or hospital. The speech therapist thinks that he would correct this on his own, but the speech therapy is free until he is 3 years old. So they are going to come out twice a month and work with him.

Drew's First Time Fishing

Drew and McKenzie walking down to Nana and Papa's pond.

Daddy and Drew fishing.
Before Papa could even get the other kids hooks baited, Drew was catching fish.
I am not sure if the look on Drew's face is confusion or concentration.
Drew kissed his first fish for good luck. Uncle Brett said he got a picture of lips on fish, I just got the after kiss. I'll post Brett's if he sends it to me.
Kyle teaching Drew how to real them in. Drew is apparently a little possessive of his cousin, because he will ask "Where is my Kyle?"

Kyle, Payton and McKenzie all caught fish too. I think Drew had lots of fun. After he caught 5 fish we stopped. He was hot and red in the face. I would ask him "do you want to go to the house and tell Nana about your fish?" He would say "no, I fishin!"

Frogs and Buffalo

Uncle Brett and I were on our way out to the truck to go and pick up the cakes and there was a little frog in the grass. I told uncle Brett to catch it and I ran in to get Drew. I don't think he has seen a frog before. He wasn't quite as excited as I thought he would be, but still interested.

Where did you go froggy?
We saw another frog on the way down to the pond for some fishing.
The night before Papa took us for a ride to see some buffalo. Someone near their house raises them. Drew can now tell you that buffalo are big, brown, they eat hay and their tails go swish swish. We have yet to figure out what they say.

Cake Monster

Here is the bean before the feast. I wish I would have taken a picture from farther back so you could see her super cute #1 birthday balloon.
mmmmmm.... cake again!

The face and hair were not forgotten by the icing monster.

I was giving her a cake kiss and she got me with a handful of icing right in the face. Before her bath I took her around to see if anyone wanted a kiss, everyone declined except Nana. That's true love, willing to take a kiss no matter what.
My favorite cake picture!

More Party Pics

Nana ordered Jillian's cakes and I was so excited when I saw how awesome the turned out. They were supper yummy too.

Pictures of the decorations.

I ordered this princess hat for Jillian. She wouldn't keep it on very long. It made her look like a little elf anyway.
Payton and McKenzie with the party blowers. I thought Drew was going to love them, but they were too hard for him. He couldn't blow hard enough to make it unravel. Oh well.

Birthday Party!

Jillian needed help opening presents and had a few volunteers. I told Drew that Sissy would need his help opening presents and he agreed to offer his services. Payton and McKenzie were great helpers too. Jillian had lots of presents, but no one forgot Drew. Uncle Brett got him monster trucks and they were a big hit. You can see him driving one on the presents in the background.

Jillian got a baby doll and she will mimic you when you love on the baby. It is really cute, she puts the baby up by her shoulder and leans her head over on it.
She got lots of girly things although I think she would have been happy with a bag of bows.

She wore her squeaky shoes for the party.

Jillian loves brother's puzzles and now she has one of her own.
A picture of her and all her gifts after the cake and a bath.

My Lucy is a piece of work.

So we are all outside and mom is getting ready to go feed their dogs. When we come up, Bing and Lily get put in the cage, because Bing is known to be a bit snippy and Lily is sometimes territorial. So to be on the safe side, mom and dad keep them put up. Don't feel too sorry for them. The cage has a doggy door that leads into the part of the barn that mom and dad lived in while the house was being built. So they have their own apartment, that has air conditioning. So we are talking before mom walks down and Lucy decides to help herself. What a dork.

Happy Birthday Jillian and Papa!!!!

It was almost the end of Jillian's actual birthday and I realize I hadn't taken her picture. So here are the birthday kids together.

Jillian is little leery of most men except her daddy. She is giving Papa the once over. She usually does worse when she is tired or it is the first time she has seen them in a while. She generally warms up to them. I know she loves her Papa and the older she gets, she will get to experience first hand how fun he is.

Jillian's 1 Year Pictures from Jenny Wheat

This first link is to the slide show:

I hope the second link works, it is to all of our pictures through the client viewing. I thought there was some really cute ones that weren't on the slide show.

If it doesn't work you can see them at wheatphotography.com under client viewing and our session ID is Roberts and our password is admin

The Birthday Cake Slide

At the end of our photo session we let Jilli Bean attack a birthday cake. Jenny the photographer wanted a picture of her beside the cake, but that was not happening. She was grabbing for it before I even had her set down. Jillian is our little grabbing goblin. She really dug in and at the end was trying to stand up and was practically doing the splits. We took her to the sink to clean up and I told Drew he could get a bite of cake. Because it is not fair to watch your sister eat yummy cake while you are stuck with some crummy raisins. So he was getting a bite and "accidentally" fell into the icing mess. So then we had two little icing monsters to clean up and change outfits for. I didn't really mind.

Squeaky Shoes

One night when I get to work, my coworker says you have to get these for Jillian. She shows me a website with a video of toddlers with squeaky shoes. It was so adorable. Apparently she had be talking to another lady that is from South Korea and she was telling her about these squeaky shoes and their popularity. So after seeing the video I knew Jillian needed a pair for her birthday. Here is a video of her the first time she wore them. She had absolutely no reaction. We are at the photography studio for her 1 year pictures, so I think she may have been a little distracted by the new environment. When she wore them for the second and third time she would take a few steps and then look behind her, then take a few more and look again. The dogs are very attentive when she has them on, because they sound just like a dog toy. The cat is terrified by them, a little sad and a little funny. They probably will annoy most, but I love them. It helps me keep track of the little monkey.

Banana Split

Saturday after Jilli went to bed, we introduced Drew to the banana split. Quality control - must taste ice cream.
Helping scoop

Andy was opening the whipped cream and Drew was licking his lips. He can hardly hold himself back.

Actually he couldn't hold himself back. There were no spoons around, so face first into the yummies.

Helping with the whipped cream.

Drew wanted M&M's on his, so M&Ms he got. This kid was on cloud nine. Please notice Lucy the misfit with her head on the table.

The final products.
Time to enjoy the benefits of our hard labor.

In case you were wondering, Drew liked the banana split. Surprise Surprise!
