Jillian's 1 year check up and Drew's speech evaluation

Today Jillian went for her one year check up. Here are her stats:

Weight - 21 lbs 11 oz - 60th percentile
Height - 28.25 in - 25th percentile
Head - 18.5 in - 90th percentile

Jillian was very unhappy with the visit that included 3 shots and a heal stick. She screamed so loud that my ears were ringing. She screamed for about 5 minutes straight. There was no consoling her. She didn't want to be held, rocked or set down. She was screaming and shaking her legs. I tried singing, walking and bouncing. Nothing worked until she saw the toys in the waiting room on the way out. They pricked her heal to test her iron and lead. If her iron was low, they would send us for a lab draw. I was praying that it would be fine, I didn't know if I could stand to hear her cry like that again. Thankfully it was.

She is doing well, our only concern is I think she might be sensitive to milk. I think it is the cause of her diarrhea and horrible butt rash. She hasn't had any milk in 4 or 5 days and hasn't had any problems. So the doctor said to get her bottom completely cleared up for a couple of days and then introduce milk again and see if we get the same reaction. If so give her soy milk and try cow's milk in another 6 months. We had these diarrhea and butt rash problems when she was first born and they told us she was lactose intolerant. It doesn't make much sense though, because the formula doesn't cause her any problems and it is milk based. I don't know, but I will try anything to figure it out, because it is pitiful when she has that horrible diaper rash. Her bottom gets so irritated it looks like it could bleed and she cries and shakes in pain when you wipe her, even with a wash rag. I will keep every updated.

When we were waiting for the doctor to come in. Drew and I were discussing the mural on the wall and there was a gingerbread house on it. I told him we should make a gingerbread house this Christmas. He said "I love Christmas." I said "me too" He said " me three." I thought it was a crack up.

Another funny Drew moment was last night when Andy went to check on him and recover him before bed. Andy sneaked into the room and Drew started to russle. Drew said in a very sleepy voice "Dad....... close my door" Andy called me at work, which scared me to death, and was laughing about little man and just had to tell me. It made my night

Drew had a speech evaluation for articulation on Monday. I took him to a tot screening, through Leavenworth county and the school district. I was a little concerned about his speech. Sounds that he made before or words that he said before now were mispronounced. Like he says gook for book and gog for dog. I understand 99% of what the kid says, but I think the rest of the world probably understands about 50%. So she said that he does the opposite of most kids. A "G" sound is the more difficult sound, so most kids would say dod for dog, but he says gog. Other words that seem like they would be difficult he says fine, like orange or hospital. The speech therapist thinks that he would correct this on his own, but the speech therapy is free until he is 3 years old. So they are going to come out twice a month and work with him.
