Locker Time

Friday I picked Drew up from school just before noon, grabbed a happy meal and headed to the Providence YMCA. We were meeting our friends the Longs and the Nicholsons there for some fun pool time. The only pictures I took were after the swimming was over and Drew and the Nicholson boys were playing in the lockers. It reminded me of the movie When the Muppets Take Manhattan and they rent lockers to sleep in. Abby if you are reading this, I know you know what I am talking about. We watched that movie a million times.

Nate Nicholson was the first to hide in the lockers and the other two quickly followed.
When we first got to the pool Drew told me that I was going swimming and he was going to watch. He warmed up the the pool pretty quickly. It has a zero depth entry that is very kid friendly. Once Owen and Emily got there and showed no fear of the water, Drew fell victim to the peer pressure (in a good way).
After he started getting used the water, he saw kids going to down the slide in to the deeper water. He said he wanted to go and I tried to warn him that he would go all the way under water. I wanted him to be clear on the fact that his head and face would go under water. So our friend Emily went first and she just sputtered down the slide and ended up just sitting at the end and Shannon picked off the slide. So I was thinking that this wasn't going to be so bad. Now it was Drew's turn, he went up the stairs and I went to the bottom to catch him. I could see him through the slide, he has some seconds thoughts, but I told him that other kids were waiting for him to go and down he came. A complete 180 from Emily's ride, he slid like he had grease on his shorts. About mid slide the look of sheer terror came over his face. A shot of adrenaline came over me, I stepped forward to make sure I could catch this torpedo. I didn't want him to be scared for life and have a fear of water slides or water in general. Down he came and I put out my arms - SMACK!!! I caught him above the water, his body didn't even go in. It was pretty hilarious. All that lecturing about his head going under for nothing.
Drew did great at the pool, he put his face in and blew bubbles, let me hold him as he "floated" on his back and of course the slide bravery. We talked and decided maybe it was time for swimming lessons and Drew seems pretty excited about the idea.

After swimming we headed to Sonic for ice cream. They didn't have any superhero ice cream but he didn't seem disappointed with with a M&M sundae. We picked up sis, went home to take baths and get ready to see our baby Claire.
